WHO IS LITTLE TIGERS 7S RUGBY ACADEMY?

The full 7s Academy program was then implemented at the school in 2019, with former international 7s rugby women’s player and captain, Marithy Pienaar as head coach and project manager, who, along with a network of international players and coaches, further developed this rugby specific skills development program, aimed at primary school (Gr 3 – 7) learners.

We are privileged to have passionate coaches to assist Marithy at the Academies:
Bradley Robertson joined us as assistant coach in January 2019. Bradley holds a Boksmart qualification and is currently also captain of the Living Legends Pro-series touch rugby team, a Living Legends 7s team player, as well as a 1st team St George’s rugby club player.
Ronaldo Daniels assists on an ad-hoc basis. He also holds a Boksmart qualification and plays for the A & B teams at Helderberg Rugby Club.
We are proud to have Philip Snyman (former international 7s rugby player and captain), Cecil Afrika (one of the most skilled and well-known international 7s players) and Eloise Webb (current international women’s’ 7s player) as our 7s Academy Ambassadors.
TOURNAMENTS & CLINICS
Three annual tournaments are currently hosted:
- Klapmuts U13 Tournament (May)
- Lutzville U13 & U17 (Jul)
- Rhenish Primary U13 (Aug)
- Ceres U13 & U17 (Dec)
These events form part of a bigger vision that Le Roux has for the development of 7s Rugby and, for this reason, included in our services, is a variety of 7s Rugby offerings. These offerings can be packaged for different age groups and levels, according to the specific needs:
- Specialised skills coaching for 7s rugby
- Leadership coaching and mentoring for rugby
- Coaching programmes for 7s rugby coaches
- Measurable skills development
- Customised coaching camps and clinics
- 7s Tournaments
A number of clinics are hosted throughout the year. Dates & venues will be communicated to all Academy participants closer to the time of such planned clinics. Communication will also be sent to sport organisers at various schools should there be non-Academy players who would like to attend a clinic for a few hours of fun.
Investing in the community is a priority and passion for us. Unfortunately the lack of funds to grant these players the opportunities to play 7s rugby, outweighs the amount of talent.
Inspired by the success story of Brendan September, we started the Adopt-a-Player initiative with the aim to use 7s as a vehicle to support players to reach their full potential.
The players will be identified through a talent ID & assessment process and then be invited to join the academy from February to November annually.
