Former Springbok Sevens rugby player Frankie Horne has wasted no time in finding ways to give back to the sport that has been his life for the past decade.Horne along with the Stellenbosch based Sport Management Company, Caylix Sport has started a partnership to develop sevens rugby and give children the opportunity to develop skills that are valuable to any rugby code.
Part of this initiative is The Rugby Academy (TRA), originally founded by Frankie Horne and Grant MacKenzie. For now MacKenzie will continue with TRA at Buitenverwacht (wine farm in Constantia), while Caylix Sport, together with Horne will be responsible to expand this initiative to other parts of the country.
“This is a great opportunity for me to work with Caylix Sport. They will management the projects and that will give me the freedom to be involved on grass routes level…where I want to be,” said Horne, who played 68 World Rugby Sevens Series tournaments for the Blitzboks.
TRA is just the start of various initiatives and projects Horne, along with Caylix Sport, are really excited about. “I believe it is more than just a responsibility to give back to the sport that has been my life for so long. It is almost kind of a need to help with the growth of the sport,” Horne added.
Le Roux Conradie, Caylix Sport’s CEO said: “We are very excited to work with Frankie who has shown through the years that he is willing to go the extra mile and work hard to make things happen. It is important to not let Frankie’s experience and knowledge go to waste and with our goal of creating opportunities and building the game of sevens rugby it was an easy decision to get involved with Frankie.”
